Investments

Axis organizes its portfolio around four complementary investment theses, each with a distinct approach. Technology and intellectual property offer opportunities to scale; stakes in companies, real estate and structural capital contribute stability and cash generation to help the portfolio navigate different cycles.

Venture Capital and Technology

Thesis. Artificial intelligence will redraw the sectors Axis knows from the inside: business services, operations and transactions, real estate and construction. Knowledge of these sectors helps Axis choose which companies to back and shorten the path from a product to its first customers.

Approach. Capital and strategic assets for early-stage companies, investing independently or alongside other investors, with follow-on investments in later rounds. Minority stakes include information rights and a governance role when founders want an active partner, as well as the role of first customer where appropriate. Axis accepts the high risk inherent in venture capital, where a small number of investments can account for most returns, and sizes its exposure within the overall portfolio. What we look for and how to present a company are set out under Venture.

Intellectual Property Built to Scale

Thesis. Software, proprietary technologies and other intellectual property assets can reach new customers and markets without costs rising at the same rate. Axis focuses on assets with a clear commercial application, well-defined rights and the potential to generate revenue through licensing, subscriptions or integration into products and services.

Approach. Developing, acquiring and commercializing these assets, directly or through affiliates and specialist partners. Evaluation considers ownership of the rights, product differentiation, demand and the resources needed to bring the asset to market. Each transaction defines usage rights, participation in returns, and responsibilities for development and commercialization.

Stakes in Companies

Thesis. Good companies in traditional sectors are worth more with structure, governance and capital to grow. Axis takes a flexible view of sectors, seeking businesses with clear competitive advantages, a sound corporate structure and room to contribute beyond capital.

Approach. Minority or controlling stakes in growing operating companies, investing independently or alongside co-investors. Axis contributes to governance, supports expansion and contracts, and participates in management as each company requires. The size of the stake, investment horizon and vehicle are determined case by case.

Real Estate and Structural Capital

Thesis. Real assets with predictable income anchor the portfolio and help fund growth investments. These include income-producing properties, land and developments in the State of Rio de Janeiro, as well as structural capital positions with the potential for attractive returns when high interest rates make growth more expensive.

Approach. Projects with developers, builders and investors, with Axis contributing what the transaction needs: capital, corporate and contractual structuring, management or permitting. Each project has its own structure, agreements and budget to define the partners' responsibilities and the scope of their commitments.

For years, Axis has invested in the State of Rio de Janeiro, both directly and through its affiliates, alongside strategic partners. This activity combines direct investments and structured debt financing to support projects and businesses across the state.

Axis and its affiliates are slowing the pace of new real estate investments to concentrate capital, team time and attention on emerging opportunities in venture capital, strategic technology infrastructure (including high-value-added products and services for data centers and computing capacity) and artificial intelligence. This reallocation responds to changing markets while preserving the fulfillment of existing obligations and the responsible management of investments already underway.

The ties to Rio de Janeiro remain strong. Axis aims to help attract investors and skilled professionals, encourage tourism and raise the state's national and international profile, bringing greater attention and recognition to its opportunities and importance. Allocating resources more effectively today is part of preserving the capacity to keep investing in Rio over the long term, alongside strategic partners and a network of business relationships grounded in shared values.

A Deliberate Portfolio

The four theses complement each other. Income from real assets supports patient investment in growing companies and a greater appetite for venture risk. Axis monitors exposure across sectors, projects and portfolio companies to limit concentrations within the portfolio. Allocations change with time and opportunity; today, technology is the priority. Current investments and projects are discussed in meetings with people who have a company, asset or partnership in mind. Write to contato@axis.com.br.
